My name is Charlotte McMillan. I am married and live with my husband and two children in Pencaitland, where I have been running Hullabaloo music classes now for about 3.5 years.
I first got the idea for Hullabaloo when I first moved to the village and I did some music and games for our local toddler group's Christmas party. Afterwards, a couple of mums (to whom I shall be forever grateful!) suggested that it would be a good idea to try running some classes in the village as there wasn't a music class available at the time and the rest, as they say, is history!
I am a music lover and I play the clarinet, saxophone, piano, guitar and recorder and was even in a hand-bell team when I was at school! I have an A-level in music performance, and I also have a lot of experience at leading pre-school music classes, as I have taught for other organisations in the past. I am currently attending a training course on pre-school music using the Kodaly Method.
I have really enjoyed building up the business over the last few months, and am very pleased that I have been able to expand to teach classes in Haddington as well as in Pencaitland.
I like to get involved in my local community and have visited many nurseries, play groups, post-natal and Health Visitors' groups to give demo sessions and to provide some light entertainment for the children. I have also supported school fayres, Christmas parties and summer playschemes in the area. I also currently work voluntarily with Pencaitland Nursery Class and deliver music sessions to the children fortnightly.
I thoroughly enjoy teaching the classes and truly believe that young children benefit hugely from participating in musical activities at an early age (see Music & Child Development page). I put an awful lot of hard work and energy into preparing and delivering the classes, but for me it is very rewarding and worth every minute. I hope you will think so too!
